Abstract

This work includes a conductivity study of Barbituric acid (BA) in water at
temperatures (288.16-318.16).The data were analyzed by applying Lee-Wheaton
equation for symmetrical electrolyte. It is found that the equivalent conductivity at
infinite dilution (Λo) and the ion association constants KA increase with increasing
temperature. The distance parameter between ions (R) indicates the formation of
solvent separated ion pairs.
The association of (BA)and its complexes with alkaline-earth metals Mg,Ca and
Ba as chlorides have been carried out at temperatures (288.16-318.16oK).Analysis of
the results indicate that the ionic conductivity λo M2+ increase with increasing
temperature with the formation of ion-pair (MX)+.The ( R ) values for the three
complexes found to be ( 7.0-9.0Ao ) . The Walden –product (Λo μ) is also
determined and discussed.
