Synthesis and Characterization of Some New Substituted Benzimidazolyl Acrylonitriles

Abstract

The reaction of 2-cyanomethylbenzimidazole (I) with substituted benzaldehyde in
presence of piperidine afforded a series of new benzimidazolyl acrylonitriles (IIa-i). The
structures of the products were confirmed by physical and spectroscopic methods, and
supported by the 3D-configurational diagram.
